Start with what goes inside
The right size comes from the things you are housing, not from a brochure. A double garage for two cars, a high-clearance bay for a caravan or motorhome, and a workshop with a bench and a mezzanine all need different widths, door heights and roof pitches. Tell us what the building is for and we design around it.
Carports and garaports suit blocks where full enclosure is not needed. A garaport combines a lockable shed with an open awning, so the car sits under cover beside the workshop instead of taking its space.
What the block and the council decide
A garage, shed or carport is a Class 10a building under the National Construction Code, and most need a building approval from a certifier. Queensland's Building Regulation 2021 exempts only small structures: roughly, no more than 10 m² in plan area (overhangs included), no more than 2.4 m high and no side longer than 5 m, and not in the cyclonic wind region. Anything bigger goes through a certifier.
Siting is the other half. On most house lots the Queensland Development Code allows a Class 10a building inside the side and rear boundary clearance only within set height and length limits, and many councils add their own rules through the planning scheme. The new Queensland Housing Code started on 1 September 2026, but it applies in each council area only once that council's scheme is amended, so the rules depend on your address. We check the site before we design.
Kit or built
If you are handy or have a builder you trust, take the building as a kit with its drawings and engineering. If you would rather hand over the whole job, we build it in Queensland, including the concrete slab and the approval paperwork where your quote includes them.
Either way the quote lists what is supplied, what we build and what is left for other trades, such as electrical work.

Residential sheds, garages and carports: common questions
Do I need council approval for a garage or shed in Queensland?
Usually, yes. Only small Class 10a structures are exempt under the Building Regulation 2021 (about 10 m² or less, up to 2.4 m high, no side over 5 m, outside the cyclonic region). Most garages and sheds need a building approval from a certifier, and some sites also need a planning approval.
Can you build the garage, or only supply a kit?
Both. We supply kits, and we build in Queensland under Builtwise Group Pty Ltd's QBCC licence 15445275 (Builder – Open). Your quote shows exactly which parts are supplied and which we build.
What is the difference between a carport and a garaport?
A carport is an open roofed structure for vehicles. A garaport joins a lockable shed or garage to an open awning bay, so you get secure storage and covered parking in one building.
Can I build a garage myself as an owner-builder?
QBCC lists garages, carports and residential sheds among the work an owner-builder can do. You need an owner-builder permit if the work is valued at more than $11,000, and it must be approved before work starts.
Can I choose the colours?
Yes. Roof, wall and trim colours are chosen at the design stage and shown on your quote. The 3D designer is a good way to try combinations first.
